The Household of God

So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in who the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit. Ephesians 2:19-22

Many would believe that the household of God is a church; a grand building with a large steeple and floors of white marble with golden trim where the light can reflect and imitate the greatness of our Lord. Majestic works of art are such places but they are not the household of God.

You and I are the household of God. When we met him on the street marked ‘salvation’ we became His beloved; His church. Even the grandest of all the cathedrals are pale in beauty next to a humble heart completely in love with it’s Savior.

My hope is that as you read this you understand the depth of your belonging to His family. We are in this together even when it feels like we are all alone. Jesus is the cornerstone in which all of His children stand upon. He is our connection and our strength. He is our mediator and peace. He alone upholds us to be a holy temple before God the Father. His is the most important piece in this holy household that is built on the apostles and prophets. The ones of old and the one of today each have used their lives as living stones to support the household in which we stand.

As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but on the sight of God chosen and precious, you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 2:4-5

We are those living stones that create that spiritual house; His house! Unbound, unhindered and yet completely enveloped by His love and acceptance. My fellow saints, together we create the holy household of God. And in our midst resides the very Presence of our Heavenly Father.
